If you’re looking for love online, January may be your best chance. Sundays in January, or Dating Sundays as experts call them, are a day with the largest number of proactive users on dating platforms.
Analytics show a surge in engagement, sending messages, and new users signing up right after holidays. While there are no clear indications as to why this is happening, it’s believed to be a mix of holiday breakups, resolutions, and the closeness of Valentine’s Day.
For example, OkCupid saw more than 13 million new conversations during a single week in January 2020. The growth continued and the app recorded 25 million new matches in January 2021.
Another dating app, Truly Madly, saw a staggering 113% surge in messages exchanged between users. Other than that, there was a 21% increase in app visits that resulted in 70% additional matches.
For many people, New Year is a symbol of fresh starts and life changes. The optimism of holidays frequently translates into personal relationships, which is why every January shows more and more numbers, especially since the pandemic limited our social interactions.
